In the section "Historical works" we publish a review "The history of Pereyaslavl land from ancient times to the half of the XIII century" (1898).
I am sure that the book of Mr. Lyaskoronsky in its present form will not be without use; but this benefit does not correspond to the mass of long-term labor put into this book.

The recent war with the Japanese showed that in the war, as it is now waged, the Cossacks are not capable – it is better to have a regular cavalry in their place.

In the section "Historical works" we publish a review “Meczislaw Lechnicky. Historical and critical essay on the essential meaning and origin of the name of the Slavs" (1898).
The review of the author, however, will not be able to introduce the issue, because it mainly discusses the outdated or fantastic conclusions of the Slavic name.

And in Russia they work an average of 250 days only, and in some places even less: in some places the people celebrate 120 or even 160 days.

The author drowned in the actual story, the scientific perspective was lost behind it, the important details were not visible, the reader could not stand, in fact, any understanding of the then relations.

The author could make a useful contribution to science if he did a more thorough and deeper philological work on the orography of the area that interested him in the direction we indicated.

Therefore, a good deed was done by all who used to teach, encourage our newspaper, bring it hand in hand, and go from house to house for their own acquaintances and countrymen to encourage themselves.

When reviewing the first volume, we indicated the main drawback of the work: the title does not correspond to the content, this is a story of only Great Russian – even more closely – Moscow culture.

Under this title came a vast monograph dedicated to the internal history of the former provinces of Kyiv and Bratslav, that is, the Middle Dnieper and Boh in the XVI and the first quarter of the XVII century.
