In the section "Historical works" we publish introductory word from the editorial office to vol. XXII of the Rus’ Historical Library (1902).
There are presented two investigations in this volume – both on the legal status of peasants under the Rus’-Lithuanian law by Mikhail Vladimirsky-Budanov, a professor of the history of law in Kyiv.

The demands of the current moment can come as a sad surprise to many. But there is nothing to do! We must put them on and carry them out.

I have repeatedly presented classical evidence of complete unfamiliarity with the current state of Ukrainian studies in Russian and Polish scholars.

In the section "Historical works" we publish a review «Franciszek Piekosiński. Sądownictwo w Polsce wieków średnich» (1902).
Briefly, concisely and completely dogmatically on these two sheets, the Cracow professor will cross out the system of courts in Poland by the end of the 15th century.
New article about M. Hrushevsky
In the "Studies" section we publish V. Verstyuk’s article "The Age of the Central Council in the Journalistic Heritage of M. Hrushevsky" (2007).
Federalism, like autonomy, for M. Hrushevsky was never a denial of an independent Ukrainian state, rather, it was a necessary and consistent step towards its construction.

In the section "Historical works" we publish a review «J.K.Kochanowski. Kazimierz Wielki, zarys żywota і panowania» (1902).
Both the first and the second are written in the tone of a panegyric, burdened with a mass of noisy, mostly rather clichéd phrases, but even the author’s literary ability is not revealed.

In the section "Historical works" we publish a review "L. Sacketti. The main moments in the development of Russian Orthodox spiritual singing" (1902).
For the history of Ukrainian church singing, the article gives very little (and that mixes everything in one heap with Moscow), but it can be useful information about the new phenomena of church music in Russia.

In the section "Historical works" we publish a review "Bogdan Barvinsky. Congress of the Galician prince Daniel with the Hungarian king Bela IV in Presburg in 1250» (1902).
It is this accumulation of possibilities on the possibilities on which the author’s conclusions are based – that do not meet the requirements of the historical method.

The rights of the peasant to land – one of the most interesting and important for understanding the socio-economic evolution of the history of Ukraine, and at the same time one of the dark and unexplored.

In the section "Historical works" we publish a review “Diet struggle of the Orthodox Western Russian nobility with the church union (until 1609), by prof. P. Zhukovich" (1902).
The true theme of the book is the history of the union in connection with the state policy of Poland in 1590-1609. and the attitude towards it of the state estates and government circles of Poland.

It contains – though not independent, sometimes exaggerated and often spoiled for that, but for all that there is a really wide enough general view of the genesis of brotherhoods.

Apparently, being a pupil of an Orthodox theological school, the author in his work proceeds from a purely confessional position.

But regarding the method of conducting the publication itself, we must express several wishes on the occasion of the volumes published so far. First of all, we see little of the scientific apparatus.

Unfortunately, this inventory interprets very unevenly the monuments that have a sign of Polish and Ukrainian.

An article with such an attractive title actually gives very little. The author tells about the criticism of Tatishchev’s stories about education and school in Ancient Rus’, given by Golubinsky.

Guess as guess, and even quite attractive, the only trouble is that with quite frequent mentions of the enthronement of princes in the Rus’ tribes nowhere have a hint at such a ceremony.
